New College hires faculty for new “Division for the Study of Western Civilization”

In a hire letter obtained for via public records request, New College administration appears to have hired a visiting assistant professor for a new Division called the “Division for the Study of Western Civilization”. The hire, Jeff Scarborough, was hired to teach in the announced online degree program with the Ricketts Great Books College.

The New College faculty is officially “organized into the Divisions of Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences” (section 2.4 of the faculty handbook).

This visiting assistant professor hire did not go through the hiring process described in the faculty handbook, which is potentially also a violation of the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement.
