A community advocating for New College
Our mission:
The Novo Collegian Alliance was established as an organization with three primary goals: With the founding principles, original ideals, and rigorous academic program of New College as our guiding light, we intend to provide for support of the alumni, students, staff, faculty, and allies working to maintain the essence of New College of Florida, to provide a platform for alumni and other stakeholders to communicate their thoughts and concerns to the College and to policymakers, and to support the College’s original educational mission through fundraising, networking, and communications.
How the NCA supports New College:
The Novo Collegian Alliance was formed to build off the amazing advocacy rallying around the Save New College movement, and to fill the need for a legally incorporated organization to sustain the fight over the long-term. We will continue the fight to preserve and improve New College of Florida, including through:
Student support programs
Providing a voice at formal New College venues such as Board of Trustees and Foundation public meetings
Strategic media campaigns and coordination
Mobilizing our community of advocates to respond to opportunities and challenges
Fundraising to build resources to continue this fight
Coordinating with other groups and helping to build a working coalition
Education and advocacy on legislative affairs
Communicating and educating the community

Help us sustain the fight!
We work with partner organizations to fulfill needs to support New College: supporting students, institutional policy advocacy with the Board of Trustees and the Foundation, media campaigns, and rapidly mobilizing supporters from all parts of the Novo Collegian community to protect the campus and educational freedom as needs arise.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, your donation to the Novo Collegian Alliance is tax deductible as allowed by law.

Back in February 2023, the team leads from the Slack-based advocacy working groups met to identify the benefits of incorporating as well as what an incorporated organization might look like, and the members of that incorporation steering committee included Bill Rosenberg, Myranda Pierce, and Brian Cody. They teamed up with the “Running the Starship” group of former New College NCAA presidents who had similar goals around mission and need to incorporate, and that included Colin Boyle, Steve Jacobson, Mike Campbell, and Cindy Hill.

Yes! The NCA was incorporated in March, 2023 as a Florida corporation, and given 501(c)(3c) by the IRS in July, 2024. Therefore, your donation to the Novo Collegian Alliance is tax deductible as allowed by law.
-
Yes! We have staggered board seats so some will be up for election each year.
-
The Slack-based advocacy working groups are self-organized action teams of volunteers. The Novo Collegian Alliance will partner with the Slack-based working groups whenever possible, and if it’s beneficial to organize efforts under the NCA as a legal entity rather than individual volunteers (i.e. signing contracts, hiring people, representing members, issues of liability, fundraising needs, etc.) then a NCA committee would be formed with a specific charge and resources to support the group.
-
We staggered board elections so 1/3 of seats are available each year. We also limited Board membership to alumnae/i to protect from political activists not aligned with New College’s original mission and principles trying to effect a “hostile takeover” of the NCA.

We think of "Save New College" as the movement or the slogan, and the Novo Collegian Alliance is a nonprofit organization that supports that movement.
